A few weeks ago I had a call with a literary agent.
It was a general feedback session: she’d read 2,000 words of my project, plus my query letter, and the call was to offer some general guidance on the publishing industry.
For context, I’m writing a memoir about my childhood in gymnastics, and how I’ve contextualised it’s impact in adulthood. It’s a book about ambition, sisterhood, discipline and success. But it’s also about learning to live gently. Letting go of the notion that everyone is competition. Letting go in general.
The agent I spoke to was great. She offered some very encouraging comments on my writing (I actually jotted them into my Notes app for those days where I look at my project and think what even is this?).
Then, I asked the big question:
“Where do you see this sitting commercially?”
